We’re now 6 years on from the first Future Stars promo back in FIFA 19, but how did their careers pan out? Which of the players have hit their predicted potential from FIFA 19?
Vinicius Jr - 92 > 90
The poster boy for Future Stars in 2020 was Vini Jr after his big move to Real Madrid. After missing out on Neymar the Spaniards have been out to get revenge and with that came Vini, he’s arguably surpassed Neymar’s achievements already by reaching 2nd place in the Ballon d’Or in 2024. Definitely reached his FIFA 19 potential
Matthijs de Ligt - 92 > 86
Another 92 rated in FIFA 19 was Matthijs de Ligt, despite playing for Ajax, Juventus and Bayern Munich, de Ligt hasn’t reached his predicted potential just yet. FC 24 was where we saw his highest base item, an 86 rated for Bayern.
Houssem Aouar - 91 > 81
It’s hard to call any of these guys a flop, because they’re still in their mid 20s, but the hype surrounding Aouar has certainly died down. His highest rated item was the year following his Future Stars, an 81 rated in FIFA 20.
Jadon Sancho - 90 > 87
In terms of Ultimate Team, Sancho peaked very early. Just 2 years after this 90 rated card, he was rewarded with an 87 OVR in FIFA 21. Unfortunately his move to Manchester United halted his progression and we’re yet to see him higher than 87.
Alban Lafont - 90 > 80
I promise it wasn’t just the French guys who failed to hit their potential, but Alban Lafont is another who didn’t. Goalkeepers do have the hardest job on the pitch so it was never going to be easy for Lafont to hit the extreme heights.
Patrick Cutrone - 89 > 77
Cutrone is another player who couldn’t quite hit his FIFA 19 potential, in fact no one in that Future Stars team has performed worse since then. His highest rated card is a non rare 77 rated at Wolves in FIFA 20.
Kai Havertz - 90 > 85
Since leaving Leverkusen Havertz has gone on to win the Champions League with Chelsea, scoring the winning goal in the final and the Community Shield with Arsenal. A humble 85 OVR has been his highest base rating since his induction into Future Stars.
Luka Jovic - 88 > 83
This doesn’t quite paint the whole picture for Luka Jovic, yes he did have an 83 rated in FIFA 20, but it was from this point where it went downhill. Real Madrid never managed to get the best out of him and he hasn’t managed to find form anywhere since leaving Frankfurt.
Phil Foden - 88 > 88
Phil Foden is the only player on this list to actually meet his potential from FIFA 19 and will surely break past that in years to come. Fresh of scoring his first Man City goal, Phil was given an 88 Future Stars card and his performances since his debut have led up to his 88 rated base card in FC 25.
Ferland Mendy - 87 > 84
Everyone’s favourite left back has been striking fear into us since FIFA 19. Just like his Real Madrid counterpart Vini Jr, Mendy’s highest rated UT card was also this year in FC 25. An 84 rated, just 3 short of his predicted potential back in 2020!
