A brand new Promo is here in EA Sports FC 25 and it comes in the form of the Grassroots Greats Promo. Grassroots Greats honors past and present players who have risen from local leagues, university programs, and lower tiers of the football pyramid—proving that greatness can come from anywhere.
The biggest part of this Promo however comes in the return of Diego Armando Maradona. The hand of god has returned to Ultimate Team and he comes back in with a bang. This promo features something similar to the TOTY Zidane item in that we have been gifted a 77-Rated Maradona item to be put into various Evolutions that would lead you all the way to the great he became.
As mentioned there is various evo’s you can go with here that highlight the various positions he played over the years. Each giving different kinds of boosts and playstyles. For playstyles you can choose between Incisive Pass+, Powershot+ and Technical+. For me, I chose the Technical as I feel for a CAM to eventually end up with Technical and Finesse+ would be a lethal combination. Of course you did read correct there, you can also get this item a secondary PS+ in the form of Finesse. This is done by a secondary Evo that is a paid evolution.
For Chemstyle here I opted for the Hunter in order to max out the pace and shooting as otherwise he feels pretty well rounded for a CAM.
For the Evo’s you only have to play a total of 9 games with the 77-Rated Maradona card with just 2 wins amongst those games. This brings the item all the way up to a 89-Rated card. It’s worth noting the first stage can be completed in Friendlies. Of course I did mention an additional paid Evo. This is costing 500k or 1k FC Points to unlock. I’ll discuss whether or not this evo is worth it later but again worth noting that for this Evo, it comes in just two stages with both of them yet again being possible to be completed in Friendlies as both stages are simply to “Play 1 game in any game mode”.
How did he perform in-game?
+ Pace was perfect on this item. As a central attacking midfield, he was quick enough to outpace the opposition allowing the striker to move into a better position to pick up the ball.
+ Whilst shooting wasn’t the most important stat for this card, of course having finesse+ means this item can easily pick up some goals from outside the box. His finishing in general was decent as he rarely missed.
+ Positioning was also impressive as he often made attacking runs into space to be able to pick up the ball and be in the position to fire a shot into the net from range.
+ Dribbling of course was the most impressive stat to this card as he incredible on the ball. Very sleek and agile. With having the Technical+ version of Maradona, he simply could not be dispossessed of the ball. It stuck to his feet and he worked his magic.
+ Passing of course also relatively decent. He provided plenty of assists in his games and made finding his man look easy.
Maradona - Cop or Flop?
So this is maxed out version of course is coming in at a 500k cost to complete. Or 1k FC Points should you wish to pay for it. Whilst I would never advocate for adding FC Points, I also can understand the mindset of perhaps spending FC Points on an Evo that is guaranteed to make a difference to your team over the gamble of opening packs. However, we still do not advocate for spending your money on the game. So I will base this on the 500k coin value that is attached.
This card felt incredible in-game. As much as you would expect it too and just like Maradona has felt in previous Fifa titles. I feel pretty confident in the route I took with Evos in that having Technical and Finesse+ in your CAM is a great combo that will allow for easy goals and assists. There is a 96-Rated Maradona in packs with the exact same PS+ combo that at the time of writing this is still extinct with a 15m price range cap. So the fact you are getting a slight downgrade of an item for 500k is an absolute steal in my book.
If you have the facilities to complete this evo, absolutely do it! This is a massive card and I highly expect to see it in most teams.
Verdict = COP
