A rather underwhelming TOTW awaits, with many of the top sides failing to win, which always limits how strong the squad will be. However, there are a few standout players, with Putellas finally in line for an IF, Pulisic continuing to impress for Milan, and Lukaku awaiting a TIF.
Matthew Ryan - GK - 78 > 85 OVR
Six saves and clean sheet / Marseille 0 - Lens 1 / 8 L’equipe Rating
Ryan made several key saves as Lens came away with all three points from their trip to Marseille. With a total of 1.55 expected goals prevented, it’s no surprise that Ryan went on to be named MOTM with an 8/10 from L'Équipe.
Marc Cucurella - LB - 82 > 87 OVR
Goal and clean sheet / Chelsea 1 - Leicester 0 / 8.2 Sofascore Rating
I still feel that Cucurella should have been the Chelsea IF last week, but with EA opting for Nkunku instead, we have an easier selection this week. The Spaniard continued his fine form for Chelsea, scoring the only goal of the game during their 1-0 win over relegation-threatened Leicester. It was also the match that saw Palmer’s first professional penalty miss.
Jeffrey Gouweleeuw - CB - 76 > 87 OVR
Goal and clean sheet / Dortmund 0 - Augsburg 1 / 1.5 Kicker Rating
It’s been a shocking season for Dortmund, who are battling to stay in the top half. Augsburg were the latest side to benefit from their downfall, with the away side coming away with a 1-0 win thanks to a goal from Gouweleeuw.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles - RB - 75 > 87 OVR
Clean sheet / Nice 0 - Lyon 2 / 7 L’equipe Rating
I wanted to include Almada for his two assists in this match, which saw L’Equipe award him POTW with an 8/10, but with him not being in the game, we have to look elsewhere. Often, EA will opt for another player from the same side in these scenarios. If that is the case, then Maitland-Niles was the other Lyon player to feature in TOTW. It’s a punt I am willing to take with minimal Ligue 1 options.
Christian Pulisic - LM - 83 > 88 OVR
Two goals / Lecce 2 - AC Milan 3 / 8 Gazzetta Rating
With Biereth making last week’s side with a four-week gap, it gives me more confidence about this Pulisic selection. AC Milan were struggling away at Lecce, finding themselves two down with thirty minutes to go. A miraculous comeback occurred, led by Pulisic, to win 3-2. The American scored two of those three to claim a strong 8/10 from Gazzetta.
Marten de Roon - CM - 79 > 87 OVR
One goal / Juventus 0 - Atalanta 4 / 7.5 Gazzetta Rating
Atalanta continue to push during the title race, and this was a big step in that process. Juventus were another side who, prior to this match, could say there was still a chance, so to win 4-0 away from home is a real statement. De Roon was named MOTM from this impressive victory and looks set to be a favourite for one of the featured spots this week.
Alexia Putellas - CM - 90 > 91 OVR
One goal, one assist / Barcelona 4 - Valencia 1 / 9.6 Sofascore Rating
Although Putellas does have three promotional cards, she is still without an IF. With a goal and an assist to her name this week, alongside the fact that Barcelona receives an IF most weeks, I can see EA taking the opportunity and awarding the Spaniard her first IF this week.
Bradley Barcola - LW - 80 > 85 OVR
One goal, one assist / Rennes 1 - PSG 4 / 7 L’equipe Rating
Similarly to Putellas, Barcola is without an IF despite several other promotional inclusions. The Frenchman has been highly impressive this season, with his latest goal and assist taking his seasonal total to 13 goals and 7 assists. At just 22 years of age, PSG will be hoping Barcola stays with them for years to come.
Declan Rice - CM - 87 > 88 OVR
One goal / Man United 1 - Arsenal 1 / 8 Sky Rating
Arsenal seem to be accepting that the title race is now over, as they dropped more points this weekend against United. It could have been worse, with United taking the lead before a late Rice goal secured a point. Rice was named MOTM, and despite United’s current position, this match remains a high-profile one. With a lack of Premier League options, I can see Rice sneaking in this week.
Klara Buhl - LM - 83 > 87 OVR
Two assists / Koln 0 - Munich 3 / 9.2 Sofascore Rating
Munich remain top of the table with a 3-0 away win over struggling Köln. Both Frankfurt and Wolfsburg are providing strong competition, so they need to continue winning if they want to lift the title. Bühl stood out in their latest win, providing two assists to claim MOTM during the victory.
Romelu Lukaku - ST - 82 > 88 OVR
One goal, one assist / Napoli 2 - Fiorentina 1 / 7.5 Gazzetta Rating
It seems crazy to award a striker their third IF of the season for just a goal and an assist, but once again, strikers were a difficult position to select this week. With that in mind, Lukaku could benefit from that after his goal and assist saw him named MOTM during Napoli’s narrow 2-1 win over Fiorentina.
Substitutes
Diego Llorente - CB - 77 > 85 OVR
Goal and clean sheet / Real Betis 1 - Las Palmas 0 / 8 Sofascore Rating
The Real Betis IF continues to be elusive, with three consecutive predictions seeing EA select an alternative Betis player. It looks as though they are going to make it four inclusions in a row this week, with Llorente scoring the only goal of the game from CB. Surely EA can’t opt for a different Betis player this time around, right?
Nadiem Amiri - CM - 78 > 85 OVR
One goal, one assist / Gladbach 1 - Mainz 3 / 1.5 Kicker Rating
Amiri was named Player of the Week in the Bundesliga after he controlled the match from midfield. His goal and assist helped Mainz secure their fourth consecutive win as they continue to strengthen their push for a Champions League spot.
Mauro Arambarri - CM - 78 > 85 OVR
Two goals / Getafe 2 - Atletico Madrid 1 / 8.1 Sofascore Rating
It looked as though Atletico were going to grind their way to a 1-0 away win over Getafe, but Arambarri had other ideas. He scored in both the 88th and 92nd minutes to turn the game on its head, securing an unexpected three points for Getafe.
Callum Hudson-Odoi - LM - 77 > 85 OVR
One goal / Forest 1 - Man City 0 / 8 Sky Rating
We saw a similar situation with Hudson-Odoi’s first IF, with the wide midfielder scoring the only goal of the game against Liverpool. Once again, Forest put in an impressive display, strengthening their top-four hopes with a 1-0 win over fellow Champions League spot contenders, Manchester City. MOTM with the only goal in such an important win likely secures Hudson-Odoi’s inclusion.
Bobby Kamwa - LW - 61 > 86 OVR
Hat trick / Newport 3 - Gillingham 1 / 10 Sofascore Rating
A SIF from Newport County, who play their football in League Two, was not something I expected to see, especially with the season nearing its end. Kamwa stood out for the second time this season, scoring all three of Newport’s goals in their 3-1 home win.
Steven Skrzybski - ST - 72 > 85 OVR
Two goals / Kiel 2 - Stuttgart 2 / 1.5 Kicker Rating
With a limited number of strikers performing this week and the fact that IFs now go to a base rating of 85, I can see Skrzybski sneaking onto the bench. Although Kiel only managed a point, it was the German's brace that allowed them to come away with anything. He received the joint-highest rating of the week with a 1.5.
Ivonne Chacon - ST - 70 > 87 OVR
Two goals / Levante 2 - Tenerife 0 / 8.4 Sofascore Rating
Levante are in desperate need of points with relegation looming as the season nears its end. Hosting Tenerife this weekend, they secured a crucial win, with their striker, Chacon, scoring both goals. They are now just two points from safety with nine games to go.
Reserves
Manuel Sanchez - LB - 74 > 85 OVR
Goal and clean sheet / Alaves 1 - Villarreal 0 / 7.7 Sofascore Rating
Victor Garcia Raja - RM - 69 > 85 OVR
Two goals, one assist / Zaragoza 2 - Eldense 4 / 9 Sofascore Rating
Albert Rusnak - LW - 73 > 85 OVR
One goal, two assists / Seattle 5 - LAFC 2 / 8.6 Sofascore Rating.
Louis Munteanu - ST - 69 > 85 OVR
Hat trick / CFR Cluj 6 - Gloria Buzau 0 / 9.1 Sofascore Rating
Colm Whelan - ST - 58 > 85 OVR
Hat trick / Waterford 0 - Bohemian 3 / 8.9 Sofascore Rating
